You're right in the heart of it: the Llech is 5 minutes away, the caves and the Souterrata 10, the Castellane 15. Here you don't pick a route for the drive, but for what it offers.
Times are from central Prades; from Villefranche-de-Conflent, six kilometres away, they differ by only a few minutes. Only the Vingrau cliffs are more than an hour's drive.
Approximate driving times from the centre of Prades, without traffic.
Prades and Villefranche-de-Conflent face each other in the Têt valley, at the foot of the Canigó. Most of our routes are around them: the Llech and the Castellane, the Thuès hot-water canyon, five caving trips, the Souterrata via ferrata and the Casteil cliffs.
In summer, the Llech is the star outing: a dozen giant slides and jumps up to 9 m. It's a sporty canyon from age 14, recommended for people who have done canyoning before. For a first time or with children, the Castellane welcomes them from age 7. All year round, the hot-water canyon, caving and the Souterrata take over.
Villefranche-de-Conflent, the town fortified by Vauban, is the starting point for the underground trips: the Souterrata ends underground, and the En Gorner, En Casa and Canalettes caves are a few minutes away.
The Souterrata (2 h) and the En Gorner discovery trip (2 h 30) start from the same car park in Villefranche-de-Conflent: one in the morning, the other in the afternoon.
In July and August, a cave at around 14 °C or a canyon in the shade of the gorge beats a rock face in full sun. Via ferrata trips start early in the morning.
Light rain changes nothing in canyoning: you're already wet. In case of storms or flooding, the guide cancels or postpones, and you get a full refund.
On site, most trips fit into half a day. Allow the whole day for Exploration Canalettes, Aquatique En Gorner, Merveilles En Gorner and Grande Voie de Vingrau.
It's a sporty canyon, recommended for people who have done canyoning before: from age 14, 3 hours in the water and an hour's walk, at a steady pace. To start out, the Castellane (from age 7) or the Thuès hot-water canyon, a beginner route from age 10, are better suited.
Each route has its own, listed in the programme on its page: Prades for the Llech, the Prades swimming pool car park for the Castellane, the Souterrata car park in Villefranche-de-Conflent for the via ferrata and most of the caves.
The Thuès hot-water canyon, 30 minutes away, runs all year in pools at 35 °C. The Villefranche caves keep the same temperature in every season, and the Souterrata stays open.
7 for the Castellane, the En Gorner discovery trip and the Casteil cliffs; 8 for the Souterrata; 10 for the hot-water canyon; 14 for the Llech.
