The terrain.

En Casa cave, in the commune of Ria, is the sporting version of caving in the Conflent. Access requires a 30-minute hike gaining elevation quickly before plunging into a narrow entrance. Inside, passages follow in succession: crawling through low galleries, negotiating squeeze-throughs, slipping through the letterbox, climbing between boulders and edging along traverse ledges.

The highlight: a 15 m rappel at the end of which a treasure of eccentric crystals awaits — rare formations that grow in defiance of gravity. You leave with marked knees and elbows — and a head full of images.
