Collioure is in the south of the coast, at the foot of the Albères. From here, all our routes take an hour's drive or more: the Llech and the Tautavel cliffs an hour, the Castellane and the Villefranche-de-Conflent caves 1 h 10. Might as well make a good day of it.
Times are from central Collioure. The Llech at Prades and the Tautavel and Vingrau cliffs are an hour away; the Castellane, the caves and the via ferrata at Villefranche-de-Conflent 1 h 10, Thuès 1 h 25.
Approximate driving times from the centre of Collioure, without traffic.
Collioure, with its lanes and harbour, draws visitors from all over Europe; the canyons are in the hinterland, around Prades, an hour's drive away.
The Llech is the area's sporty canyon: a 3-hour descent, a dozen giant slides and jumps of up to 9 m, from age 14 and recommended for people who have done canyoning before. The Castellane, 1 h 10 away, is the gentlest: jumps of 2 to 5 m, all optional, from age 7. Both run from June to September.
Away from the canyons, the Tautavel and Vingrau cliffs, an hour away, are for climbers who can already lead; the Villefranche-de-Conflent caves, at around 14 °C, are open from age 7, 1 h 10 away.
The caves and the Souterrata via ferrata start from Villefranche-de-Conflent, a village fortified by Vauban and listed by UNESCO: something to fill the end of the day.
Driving times are calculated without traffic. In July and August, allow some extra time to reach the meeting point.
From October to May, the classic canyons are closed; via ferrata, caving and the Thuès hot-water canyon stay open, an hour or more away.
On site, most trips fit into half a day. Allow the whole day for Exploration Canalettes, Aquatique En Gorner, Merveilles En Gorner and Grande Voie de Vingrau.
The Llech near Prades, about an hour away: a sporty canyon from age 14, recommended if you've done canyoning before. For beginners, the Castellane, 1 h 10 away, is open from age 7. Both run from June to September.
For the Castellane, about 2 h 20 on site (a 2-hour descent and a 20-minute walk), plus 1 h 10 of driving each way: allow the morning and early afternoon. The Llech, with a 3-hour descent and an hour's walk, takes the whole day.
The Castellane welcomes children from age 7, about 1 h 10 from Collioure. Underground, the En Gorner discovery trip in Villefranche-de-Conflent is also from age 7.
