The terrain.
The En Gorner cave, carved into the pink marble of Villefranche-de-Conflent, is one of the most beautiful cavities accessible to beginners in the Pyrénées-Orientales. Over 500 metres of natural galleries shaped by water over millennia.
The discovery route links the sand castle chamber, the Egyptians' passage — a low corridor carved in red-streaked marble — the chaos room of fallen boulders and the column gallery, all the way to the immense Elephant Hall, whose dimensions never fail to impress.
The way back runs through the pools, then an 8 m free-hanging rappel — easily skipped if the rope isn't for you. You exit through the gruyère labyrinth, a rock riddled with holes you thread your way through back to daylight.

"In the Elephant Hall, I turn off all the lights for a minute. That total silence, that absolute darkness — no one forgets it."
