The Capcir is a plateau: to find canyons, you have to go down. 35 minutes away, Thuès and its 35 °C water; 50 minutes away, the caves and via ferrata of Villefranche-de-Conflent.
Times are from Les Angles village. Everything in the Têt valley is under an hour away; the Tautavel and Vingrau cliffs take a full day.
Approximate driving times from the centre of Les Angles, without traffic.
People come to Les Angles for Lake Matemale, the Capcir forests and, in winter, the slopes. Our routes are further down, in the Têt valley, and suit a half-day: canyon or caves in the morning, back on the plateau in the afternoon.
In winter and in the shoulder seasons, the Thuès hot-water canyon and caving at Villefranche-de-Conflent depend neither on snow nor on the outside temperature. The Souterrata, a via ferrata that ends underground, is open all year round.
In summer, the Llech, 55 minutes away, is the area's flagship canyon: giant slides and jumps up to 9 m. It's a sporty canyon from age 14, recommended for people who have done canyoning before. For a first time or with children, the En Gorner discovery trip (from age 7) or the Souterrata (from age 8) make good first outings.
The Souterrata (from age 8) and the En Gorner discovery trip (from age 7) take about two hours each and start from the same car park in Villefranche-de-Conflent.
After Thuès, you drive back up to 1,600 m with wet hair: keep warm, dry clothes in the car.
Book at least 48 hours before the outing: the guide prepares equipment for your height and weight.
On site, most trips fit into half a day. Allow the whole day for Exploration Canalettes, Aquatique En Gorner, Merveilles En Gorner and Grande Voie de Vingrau.
The closest is the Thuès hot-water canyon, 35 minutes away, open all year from age 10. In summer, the Castellane (1 h 05, from age 7) and the Llech (55 minutes, from age 14, recommended if you've done canyoning before) round out the choice.
Head down into the valley: the Thuès hot-water canyon, the Villefranche-de-Conflent caves and the Souterrata via ferrata are open in every season, 35 to 50 minutes' drive away.
Not for the En Gorner discovery trip: reasonable fitness is enough, from age 7. Some passages involve crawling or a little climbing, and the guide adapts the pace to the group.
Yes, all technical equipment is provided and checked before every outing: wetsuit, helmet, harness, and a headlamp underground. You only bring your personal things.
